Does My Head Look Big In This?

I hope to teach Middle Grades Social Studies and Science one day in the not so distance future, so I have been looking for books to use in class.

Does my head look big in this & Ten things I hate about me by Randa Abdel-Fattah are two books set in Australia about a Muslim girl. I was hoping that they might be useful in the classroom, but I am not so sure. The books were an interesting read, but would not appeal to boy students. The books were more along the social aspects of being a teen girl, who happens to be a Muslim.  What I came away with from the books was it sucks to be a Muslim girl.

Lady Macbeth and Look Again

Lady Macbeth by Susan King- ok I read this book because I also read Queen Margaret by the same author. Enjoyed the book- difficult to get started and the Gaelic drove me crazy.  Plot and characters were interesting. Ending was convoluted.

Look Again  by  Lisa Scottoline - This is the Thomasville Public Libraries book club read for February.  As I was reading this I kept going why is this so familiar.  Well Duh- I have read it before, which is why I need a master list for what I read. Not a bad book and I read it in one sitting all 385 pages. Woman adopts a baby and then discovers that he may be an abducted baby. Yeah sounds like a movie on Lifetime. Decent easy read.

What I am reading now!

Just finished reading Tara Heavey's Making it up as I go along.  Delightful book about a young woman exploring her past to help her create a more positive future.  I really enjoy Heavey's style and wish it was easier to obtain her books.  She is an English writer with only 1 book that I know of that has been published in America- Winter bloom.

Also recently read Good things by Mia King which was a wonderful light read. More depth than a romance but still a refreshing bit of literature.

Next up is Lady Macbeth.
